도시를 돌아다니다 보면, 어제까지 있었던 건물이 무너져 폐허가 되어 있거나, 혹은 폐허였던 곳에 어느새 새 건물 들어선 것을 자주 발견하고는 했다. 그리고 그 사이에는 아직 어떤 곳에도 속하지 않는 공사현장이 있다. 공사장은 어떤 곳이 되어야 할 공간일 뿐 그 자체로는 어떠한 역할 혹은 쓰임을 가지지 않으며, 목적이 달성되면 사라질 일시적인 공간이다. 그리고 공사의 과정에서 떨어져 나온 폐자재는 쓰임이 다 되거나, 쓰임에서 제외되어 떨어져 나온 일종의 ‘과정의 파편’이라 할 수 있다. 그것은 완성에 속하지 못하게 된, 결코 완성될 수 없게 된 것으로, 나 스스로를 그것과 마찬가지로 완성될 수 없는 과정의 존재임을 인식하게 한다. 그리고 내가 살아가고 있는 삶 또한, 일시적인 과정들의 연속으로 느끼게 한다. 나는 일상에서 마주치는 공사장에서 공사의 과정에서 떨어져나온 폐자재를 수집하고, 그것을 재사용하여 과정을 위한 구조물과 공간을 구축했다.

  As I wander around the city, I often find that the buildings that existed yesterday have collapsed and become ruins, or a new building has been built in a place that used to be ruined. And in between them, there is a construction site that does not belong anywhere yet. A construction site is a space that should be some specific place, but does not have any role or use by itself, and is a temporary space that will disappear when the purpose is achieved. In addition, the waste material that has fallen out of the construction process can be said to be a kind of “debris of the process” that has been used up or has been excluded from use. It is something that has not belonged to perfection, has never been completed, and makes me aware of the existence of a process that cannot be completed just like it. And it makes me feel the life I am living in as a series of temporary processes. I collected waste materials that had fallen out of the construction process in the construction site that I encountered in everyday life, and reused them to build structures and spaces for the process.
