전시 공간 중앙, 다양한 생산년도의 가구와 사물들이 케이블 더미와 뒤엉켜 바닥과 천장을 가로지른다. 거대한 기둥 혹은 오래된 나무를 떠올리게 하는 이 융합체는 마치 어떤 사건 발생으로 불현듯 등장한 것 같은 모습이다. 이 거대한 구조물은 작년에 선보인 전시 《핫스팟 베이스 캠프》(가상의 디지털 생명체 ’아티젝타‘의 연구기지)에서의 가구와 집기들, 그리고 수많은 케이블을 주된 재료로 구성된다. 인공 구조 곳곳에 뿌리 내리듯 자리잡고 있는 케이블 더미들은 보이지 않는 온라인 세계를 가능케하는 물리적 지지체이다.

한 가닥에 흐르는 데이터의 속도와 양이 그 한계를 무한히 갱신하는 듯한 현재, 본 전시는 이 물적 지지체가 데이터 수용 임계치에 다다라 가상세계와 물리세계를 융합시키는 폭발 사건이 일어난 가상의 근미래를 배경으로 한다. 융합체의 내외부로 옛날 모니터, 책, 돋보기, 뷰어, VR 기기 등 다양한 매체를 통해 사건을 이루는 정보를 찾아볼 수 있다. 케이블 더미의 일부 단면을 파편적으로 출력해 보여주며 우리 주변으로 무수히 흐르고 있을 보이지 않는 데이터의 존재감을 감각하게 한다.

At the center of the exhibition space, furniture and objects from various production years are entangled with cable clusters, stretching across the floor and ceiling. This fused structure—evocative of a massive pillar or an ancient tree—appears as though it emerged suddenly, triggered by an unspecified event. Composed primarily of the furniture, fixtures, and numerous cables previously featured in Hotspot Base Camp (a research base for the speculative digital lifeform “Artijecta”), the structure’s materiality directly ties back to earlier work. The cable bundles embedded throughout the artificial form resemble roots, acting as the physical backbone of the otherwise invisible online world.

In the present, where the speed and volume of data flowing through a single strand seems to endlessly reset its own limits, the exhibition imagines a fictional near-future rupture: a data overflow event in which the physical infrastructure reaches its threshold, sparking a fusion of virtual and physical domains. Scattered around and within the structure, old monitors, books, magnifying lenses, viewers, and VR devices present fragments of the incident. Cross-sections of the cable clusters are partially exposed, offering a tactile sense of the invisible data streams that continuously flow through our surroundings.
